Full Moon Bathing

A few days ago we experienced a fantastic full moon here on Kauai.  As some of you know although I live upstairs in my home, I must walk downstairs and outside  to use the bathroom.  Imagine my surpise when at 1 am I walked outside only to see three women from the lomilomi camp lounging on the pool deck chairs!  They were moon bathing and chatting away.  It was fun to see everyone enjoying herself.

Later on after relaying the story to Ho’okahi, she offered a rejuvenation technique special for such moonbathing.

Take one bowl, fill with water, then add rose petals.  Let the bowl stand under the moonlight all night long.  Then You can use the water to rejuvenate your skin.

数日前、ここカウアイ島ですばらしい満月を体験しました。知っている人もいるとは思いますが、私は二階に住んでいます。トイレに行くには下に降りて、外へ行かなければなりません。ロミロミキャンプに参加している三人の女性が、夜中の一時にプールデッキの椅子に座っているのを見てびっくりする私の姿を想像できるでしょうか！彼女たちはおしゃべりしながら、月光浴をしていたのです。彼女たちが楽しんでいる姿を見るのはとてもおもしろかったです。

後に、ホ・オカヒにこの話を伝えると、彼女は月光浴でリフレッシュするテクニックを教えてくれました。

ボウルを用意し、それを水で満たし、ローズの花びらを入れます。月の光の下に一晩置きます。そして、その水を肌につけるととてもリフレッシュします。

Edoventure Tour to Thailand! Come join us.

As I was saying earlier, an important part of the “Romilomi Way” is to push your self to your limit and discover how much further you can actually go.  We have little edoventures in each class and Romilomi Camp, but in October 2009 after the Japan tour, I will be visiting Chiang Mai, Thailand for fun, relaxation and adventure.

For those of you who are interested this tour will be open for Romilomi students to join in the fun as well.  We will stay in a traditional teak Lanna (Northern Thai) home just two blocks away from the ITM school (http://www.itmthaimassage.com/) where we will study Thai massage each morning and early afternoon for one week.  Late afternoons will include optional outings to local spas for body treatments and thai massage sessions.  Evenings are open for shopping, shopping, and more shopping or more massage!  Hopefully we will also be able to visit an elephant camp during our stay.  Of course we will have a chance to explore the delicious cuisine of Thailand each day.  Initial estimated cost is Y60,000 plus airfare.

タイへの“エド“ベンチャー・ツアー　参加者募集中

以前にもいいましたが、“ロミロミ(Romilomi)”のひとつの重要なことは自分自身を限界まで追いこみ、どれだけ自分たちが実際にすることができるかを発見するということです。それぞれのロミロミのクラスやキャンプで私たちは少し“エド“ベンチャーを体験しますが、2009年10月の日本ツアーのあと、私はリラクゼーションとアドベンチャーを楽しみに、タイのチャンマイを訪れようと思っています。

ロミロミの生徒でこのツアーに興味のある方であれば参加することができます。タイ北部のランナにある伝統的なチーク材で作られた家にステイします。ITMタイ式マッサージスクール(http://www.itmthaimassage.com)からは、ほんの2ブロック離れた場所にあります。そのスクールで一週間、朝と午後にタイ式マッサージを学びます。夕方からのオプションとしてはボディ・トリートメントやタイ式マッサージを受けに地元のスパを巡ります。夜はショッピング、ショッピング、ショッピング、または、マッサージなどの自由時間です(笑)！滞在中に時間があればエレファント・キャンプにも行くことができます。もちろん、毎日、豪勢なタイ料理を堪能するでしょう。おおよその費用として60,000円と飛行機代となります。

Edoventures!

Someone asked me today what kind of Adventures were planned for Romilomi. Hah! LOL. If you knew the adventure ahead of time and planned for it, then it wouldn’t be much of an adventure. If we think of Romilomi as a journey of self discovery and transformation, then putting ourselves in new situations can greatly expand our awareness and application of the Kahuna principles.  On Kauai some students have had hiking adventures.  Some have felt lost in the jungle without a guide.  A few have had a swimming adventure when they swam to a remote beach. With each adventure new challenges were met and self confidence was gained. Of course there will be challenges in all of our classes and camps, but in 2009 I would like to offer a new type of challenge–an Edo-venture challenge.  This will be something part Educational, part adventure, and part Edo!  (Keep your eyes on the blog for further announcements.)

どのようなアドベンチャーがロミロミで予定されているのかということを今日たずねられました。うーん(笑)。前もってアドベンチャーを知って計画をするのであれば、それはあまりアドベンチャーではないですよね。ロミロミが自己発見と変容の旅であるとすれば、私たち自身を新しい状況に置くことで、私たちの気づきやカフナの教えを実践することを広げてゆく可能性が存分にあります。カウアイ島で、ハイキングのアドベンチャーに取り組む生徒たちがいました。ジャングルのなかでガイドもなく、迷子になったように感じた生徒もいました。遠く離れたビーチまで泳ぐアドベンチャーをした生徒たちもいました。そういったアドベンチャーを通して私たちはチャレンジに出会い、自信をつけてゆきます。もちろん、すべての私たちのクラスやキャンプにもチャレンジはあるでしょう。しかし、2009年は新しいタイプのチャレンジを提供したいと思っています。“エド“ベンチャー・チャレンジです。これは学ぶ価値のあるものであり、アドベンチャーであり、“エド“風のものにもなるでしょう！(より詳しい告知はこのブログに載せてゆきますので、お見逃しなく！)

Technique and approach

Today I heard from a student I haven’t seen in a long time.  She continues to practice and enjoy lomilomi; however, she has gone on to learn many new techniques and modalities.  That’s fantastic!
This reminds me again of just how different lomilomi is from other massage styles.  Romilomi is based on kahuna principles and is an approach to life. It’s a magical way to touch bodies and to touch lives.

Let us always remember the Spiritual foundation of Romilomi in our every day lives.

長いあいだ会っていなかった生徒の一人から、今日連絡がありました。彼女はロミロミを実践し、楽しんでいますが、新しいテクニックやスタイルを学び続けているとのことでした。すばらしいですね！
ロミロミはほかのマッサージのスタイルと違うのです。ロミロミ(Romilomi)はカフナの教えに基づいていて、それは生に対するアプローチなのです。身体に触れたり、生に触れたりする不思議な技法です。

私たちの普段の生活のなかにロミロミ(Romilomi)のスピリチュアルな基礎があるということを常に覚えておきましょう。

Music Choice and Romilomi

A lomilomi student in Germany recently asked which Hawaiian music she needed to buy in order to perform lomilomi.

In the Kahuna Bodywork that I learned from Kahu Abraham and Ho’okahi, I learned how the music can be used for many things.  One goal is to occupy the mind of the person on the table.  Another goal might be to re-introduce a special energy or time era for the client.  Movement in the music is most important as the whole idea of lomilomi is movement.  It doesn’t help to have music that goes on endlessly like much of the New Age “healing” music.

So you see, the music for each person can be very different, and Hawaiian music is not necessarily better than rock or folk or jazz.

音楽とロミロミ

ドイツに住むロミロミの生徒の一人から、ロミロミをする際にどのハワイアン音楽を買えばよいかという質問を受けました。

カフ・アブラハムとホ・オカヒのカフナ・ボディワークから私が学んだことは、音楽は多くのことに使えるということでした。ひとつのゴールは、テーブルの上にいる受け手のマインドの注目を引くということです。もうひとつのゴールは、クライエントに特別なエネルギーや時間を与えるということです。ロミロミのコンセプトが「動」であるので、音楽のなかにある「動」がとても重要なのです。ニューエイジのヒーリング音楽によくあるエンドレスに続くような音楽はあまりおすすめしません。

どの音楽が合うかはひとりひとりによってとても違いますし、ハワイアン音楽がロックやフォーク、ジャズより良いとは一概に言えないのです。

Edo’s Romilomi Camp starts next week

There is still time to sign up for the Kauai Romilomi Camp November 9-15.  You can learn the basic steps and movements of the temple style of lomilomi massage on the Garden Isle of Kauai.  Our location at Mohala Ke Ola B&B (www.waterfallbnb.com) sits high above the Wailua River Valley and overlooks Secret Falls and Mount Waialeale.  Each Camp is custom designed to fit the needs of the participants as we explore the magic of this kahuna bodywork.  Much hard work and exertion are involved, but we also take time to enjoy the beach and beautiful sights of Kauai.  Come, join us for a week of fun and adventure.  Training held in English and Japanese.
